What a celebration of love!
If you know me well, you'd know that I am a CRIER at weddings- but you'd also know that I take my work very seriously. This shoot was the ultimate test of those two realities of myself having to reconcile. I met with J & D for coffee a few weeks prior to their wedding, where we got to connect and chat about their vision for their photos. Through this, I got to learn about their relationship, how they met and how they've grown as a couple. I love pre-shoot coffee chats because it gives me such a solid idea of who I'm shooting and how to make those personalities come out in the photos in a tangible way. Both J & D are such sweet, wonderful people so it was not a challenge at all to have a solid sense of how I wanted to do this shoot.
There's something surreal about meeting a couple for the first time to chat logistics, only then to see them exchange vows the second or third time ever being around them. After we had made it to the cliffside spot they wanted to be married at, the weight of the situation settled in on me. Weddings are often full of emotions and have so much leading into them, that I find the reality of the setting often hits people when they stand face to face and hand in hand.
J & D were absolute troopers, they said from the very beginning that they wanted their elopement to be 10% ceremony, 90% photos. I was over the moon when they said they both wanted to get in the water and splash around for the last bit of the evening.
What an honor to get to witness and memorialize this moment in their lives. I always find myself smiling when I think back on this day and these people. Thanks for letting me be a part of such a wonderful milestone J & D!
